Latin name: Gaultheria fragrantissima

Distilled organ: leaf.

Manufacture: traditional distillation by steam distillation. It takes about 100 kg of leaves for 1.5 l of essential oil.

Origin: Nepal.

Botanical: Cousin of the lying Gaulthériere originating from China, the fragrant Gaulthérie is native of Nepal. It is a small shrub with evergreen and creamy white flowers that leave place in winter to purplish red berries. Its leaves give off a strong medicinal odor when crumpled. Indeed, just like La Gaulthérie recumbent, they naturally contain a high content of methyl salicylate, a compound close to aspirin. This oil from "Indian Wintergreen" has properties and indications similar to the essential oil of Gulthérie recumbent, with a slightly more caramel scent.

What does an essential oil of GAULTHERIE look like? Appearance: liquid / Color: pale yellow to red / Odor: phenolate, sweet and medicinal.

Its properties
 A must-have for athletes' emergency kits, fragrant wintergreen essential oil owes its reputation as a powerful painkiller and anti-inflammatory active ingredient to its high content of natural methyl salicylate. Traditionally used in preparations for the massage of muscles and painful joints, it is the reference of natural care in aromatherapy to help relieve tendonitis, rheumatism and back pain.

Recommended use:

In massage:
- Aches: 2 drops of HE in 8 drops of vegetable oil (optional for sensitive skin) massage on affected area; Renewal if necessary after 1/4 of an hour
- Tearing, muscular pain: 3 drops of HE in 12 drops of vegetable oil (optional for sensitive skin) on affected area 3 times a day until improvement.
- Backache 3 drops of HE in 12 drops of vegetable oil (optional for sensitive skin) on affected area 3-5 times a day until improvement.
- Rheumatism, osteoarthritis, arthritis 3 drops of HE in 12 drops of vegetable oil (optional for sensitive skin) on the affected area 3-5 times a day until improvement.
- Tendinitis 2 drops of HE in 8 drops of vegetable oil (optional for sensitive skin) on the tendon, 4 times a day until improvement.

Contraindication :

Do not use in pregnant or lactating women
Do not use in children under 12 years
Attention, people with epilepsy must seek medical advice before using this essential oil.

The essential oil of Wintergreen Odorante  should not be used by people undergoing anticoagulant therapy, or allergic to salicylates (for example, aspirin is from the Salicylés family).
People with eczema, asthma, ulcer, hiatal hernia, bleeding, or having to undergo surgery should not use this essential oil.
The essential oil of Gaulthérie Odorante can be used pure on small surfaces but the effect can be irritating: to make a cutaneous test before using it. In the case of a diluted dermal application: dilute to 20% in a vegetable oil (20% of essential oil with 80% of vegetable oil).

Note: It is best to test the essential oil before use (two drops in the elbow for at least 24 hours to check that there is no reaction).
