It grows in very branched tufts in the middle of the pebbles and likes dry and very sunny grounds. Its small flowers are pink-white and give off a sweet and delicate odor. It also takes its name from the ancient Greek: "thymos" which means "I perfume". Its essential oil, very anti-infectious, serves as a preservative for food and was used in ancient times for the ritual of mummification.
